Deacon Recommendations
The Bridge Fellowship Deacon Recommendation Thank you for taking time to complete this Deacon Recommendation Form. Deacons play an extremely important role in the Church, one that is not to be taken lightly. We ask that you read 1 Timothy 3:8-13 and prayerfully consider members who might fulfil this role.
The title “deacon” comes from the Greek word diakonos, which means servant. Specifically, the scriptures instruct us that Deacons hold an office in the local New Testament Church as assistants to the Elders to carry out activities needed for the church to function and so the Elders may concentrate on aspects of shepherding and stewarding as their primary functions. This design may not be your experience in other church structure; however, it is consistent with the Elders understanding of the Lord’s design for the local church and is reflected in the Bridge Fellowship by-laws.
Deacons are called to serve the body of Christ and are accountable to Christ and the Elders. The qualifications for Deacons are contained in 1 Timothy 3. These qualifications are the same as for an Elder, except an Elder should be “apt to teach” a trait not specifically stated for a Deacon.
Acts 6 shows some of the ways that Deacons serve and how through their service, they can encourage others to serve as well. While not an exhaustive list, the Elders have currently identified potential areas as examples that Deacons may assist in carrying out God’s Kingdom purpose for the Bridge Fellowship.
1. Ministry/Outreach: Ex. Caring for widows and orphans, serving the underserved in our community and church, identifying those who need help, etc..
2. Stewarding the resources of the Bridge Fellowship: Ex. Facilities maintenance, improvement projects for our campus, ushers/sanctuary set up, check in, security, etc..
Deacon recommendations from the congregation are encouraged for the next 30 days. The Elders will review all recommendations to pray and consider as Deacon candidates through an evaluation process of qualifications prior to recognizing any to serve for an expected period of 3-5 years at a time.
These recommendations are private and will only be viewed by the Elder Body. Please DO NOT mention your recommendation to this person or to anyone to preserve unity and humility amongst our fellowship. If you have any questions, please reach out to one of the Elders. Place this form in the offering box or in Mendy’s office in an envelope marked “Deacon Recommendation”.
